The 1200 Church recently hosted a Second Harvest of the Big Bend Food Drive. We collected and delivered 121 pounds of food, which equals a little over 100 meals. Thank you for participating in the Food Drive!
Did you know that you can use your SNAP benefits at Farmer’s Markets that are located in food desert areas? A food desert is a geographical area with little or no access to healthy food. SNAP benefits go farther at Farmer’s Markets. For example, if you are limited to two dollar’s-worth of tomatoes at a grocery store, that amount is doubled at a designated Farmer’s Market.
Second Harvest works with Lott’s Community Garden to provide fresh vegetables to their partners, in addition to shelf staples. With this addition of fresh, local produce, people have more access to a well-rounded, healthy diet.
That's the power of partnerships! Thank you for reading, and Merry Christmas to you!
